Amp: Bottlehead Crack + Speedball upgrade, DNA Stratus V4. This is a review and detailed measurements of a (built) Bottlehead Crack Tube headphone amplifier. I dont think the Schiit Yggdrasil actually pair that well with the Stratus because this review I never mention Clarity. I am currently using the Sovtek 2A3 tubes. I believe it was part of a mod to add stand-by power mode, but the node has been otherwise removed. Bottlehead Crack - Must have the speedball upgrade for use with HD800. If I could pick only one pr to live with forever, would pick the 300b's by a slight margin. The right amp has a toggle switch installed on the top plate that is not connected to anything. The 300b's have a wonderful midrange, a fuller lower mid (cello, double bass) and a guttines on all strings that reminds me of live, which is really sometimes even sqeaky, unless Gil Shaham is using his Strad. I also believe there is no 'best' it is all relative to the rest of your system, musical tastes and budget IMHO. My pair of amps has silver output transformers so these are very quick and transparent, and again, very sweet. I agree with clueless, unless you know for sure you can live with a 2a3 for all the types of music you listen to, I would buy one of the consonance or bottlehead amp kits over the Audio Note. The 2a3's are sweet as they could be, particularly great on clarinet and flute, as well as piano. I have been comparing the two tube types on my Lowther Lamhorns, using amps from Electraprint audio, built by Jack Elliano himself, monoblocks, one pr built as 2a3's using nos tubes USN dated 1943, the other pr as 300b's using Sophia mesh Princess tubes(a new pr of Sophia's arrives tonight, having been assured by Sophia that they are an improvement.
